Steve Johnson Blames God for Dropped Football?

Did God make Steve Johnson, #13 of the Buffalo Bills, drop the winning touchdown pass on Sunday?  Was it mere chance?  Could God have made him drop the pass?  If He did, why?  More importantly, does God even care about the game of football?  The answers might surprise you!  Lets take them one at a time.

Sunday after missing the game winning TD pass in OT, Johnson tweeted; "I PRAISE YOU 24/7!!!!!!" AND THIS HOW YOU DO ME!!!!! YOU EXPECT ME TO LEARN FROM THIS??? HOW???!!! ILL NEVER FORGET THIS!! EVER!!! THX THO..."  Mr Johnson has bad theology if he believes that just because he Praises God all will be well.  The people of God are promised Trials, Tribulations, Persecutions and Eternal Life.  For the third part of his tweet; Yes, God does expect you to learn from this and about never forgetting this - If this is the worst thing in your life, you should be THANKFUL!  Now for the second part which I had skipped.  Does God have my (or Steve's) best intentions in mind or does he have His best intentions for me (and Steve) in mind?  I do believe that God was involved in the missed pass.  Psalms 37:23 NLT  The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.

As for "chance", there is no such thing!  Ask any Physicist, Mathamatician or Theologian.

Now the biggie:  God does care about Football, because people are involved and God cares about people.  Does God care who wins or loses?  Yes, I believe He does - not for the reasons we do though.  Everything that happens is part of God's Sovereign Will.  Ephesians 1:11 NLT  Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for He chose us in advance, and He makes everything work out according to His plan.

  1. James 3:9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
